How You Can Help
- Organize a food drive: Organizing a food drive for LFR can help fill our shelves for clients as well as spread the word about the pantry. Contact us through email from our website, or by calling 828-255-9282, and we can assist in the planning. Our Donation Calendar specifies the items we most need. A birthday party, a classroom project, a church food drive, or a civic club’s undertaking – all are good occasions for a food drive.
- Make a financial contribution: Making a donation to LFR helps pay for the expenses of operating the pantry. Financial donations are tax deductible since LFR is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 charitable organization. Checks should be made out to Loving Food Resources, or simply LFR, and written acknowledgements are mailed to donors.
- Attend an event: Participate in the occasional fundraiser sponsored by the board of directors to raise funds for operation. These include such events as a BBQ dinner in July, a pasta dinner held in November, the Turkey Bowl to earn money for holiday turkeys for the food boxes, and other such events.
- Volunteer: LFR’s roots are as a volunteer-led organization — for our first 24 years, LFR was 100% volunteer operated. Some volunteer roles are:
- Staffing the operating hours of the pantry each Saturday
- Shopping at MANNA on Tuesdays and transporting the food to the pantry
- Sorting and shelving products to be ready for clients
- Serving as a member of a committee of the board of directors to facilitate all operations of the organization
- Driving clients to their homes after shopping on Saturdays usually between 11:30-1:30 (Many clients depend on public transportation but returning home with their food on the bus is not feasible.) Most clients live within 3 miles of LFR
- Other roles are expected to be available as LFR develops a plan for office hours.
